St. Petersburg-based Okay-express intends to enter the Russian South. Its first two supermarkets will reportedly open this summer in Novocherkassk and Volgograd. The area of each is 2,000-2,500 sqm and the assortment includes up to 10,000 brands.
Design and construction work is under way. By the year’s end, shops will be built in Volzhsk. Construction sites are being searched for in Rostov and Taganrog. The South of Russia will be the first region where the company will open its supermarkets. The first Okay-express supermarket opened in St. Petersburg in 2006; now there are seven of them with floor areas ranging from 600 to 2,500 sqm. As reported by the company, investments in shop opening and re-equipment will amount to $509 million in 2008-2009. New developments are planned in St. Petersburg, the Russian South, Moscow and Siberia.
